The archaistic teapot is one of the top ten classic shapes of purple clay teapots. It was initially modeled after a drum and later named "archaistic" to express admiration for the master predecessors. This teapot has a drum-shaped body, which is full and plump. The arched round lid has a tight fit along the male and female lines at the edge of the lid opening.
The flat knob is powerful. It has a short neck and sloping shoulders, with soft and smooth lines. The spout emerges naturally and the loop handle rises evenly. A majestic air permeates through its simple and elegant design, fully displaying a powerful and magnificent bearing. The Shouzhen archaistic teapot is a classic shape created by Cheng Shouzhen, bearing his distinct personal characteristics. Many imitations have been made in later generations, but none can capture its essence.
